ARTIST BIOGRAPHY / NEIL TOMKINS
Through ten years of oil painting, Tomkins continues to explore a contemporary approach to mark making & this classic medium.
Including an extensive collection of various commission projects & murals, Neil has also been involved in various artists residencies and studio programs including locations such as Portugal, India, Peru, Mexico & Tasmania.
‘I'm interested in my work to develop the idea of perceptive space. By breaking down the seen landscape into fragments and combining them I believe there are new ways of seeing and perceiving our experience. This idea came to me when i was watching the dawn and got me thinking about different worlds. The Dusk and Dawn are like cracks between worlds. This idea has pushed me for years now trying to understand what that means through a visual lense. I'm a visual person and I often understand my experience through paint. My hope is that I can create enough resistance within the painting to allow the audience to be an active participant.’
