Some words from the Artist on this piece;
The work is an homage to a piece by Van Gough called "Boots" , one of my favourite pieces. He paints the boots in this piece as if they are a portrait. This piece is often exalted as an ode to the working class but I see it more as a story. The boots in my piece were gifted to me by Stu, the singer of the band "King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard. Stu wore these boots for a decade on stage with the band, I felt the character and story of that and of course, I asked to paint them. There is something that represents both the hard work and creativity of the band in something like a shoe that is so simple but so necessary. Paired with the dingo skull as an Australian memento mori and the glittering bust of Apollo, the work asks the audience to project a story as a modern day vanitas.
